New Year Goals

あけましておめでとうございます!

We have entered a new year, which means ridiculously grand resolution, I mean attainable daily goals time.

Here’s my list.

A bit of Korean everyday, laddering from Japanese.

I actually studied Korean before even thinking about Japanese.  A lot of my high school friends were Korean, as was my roommate, so I did pick up a bit of it.  TV helped.   If I remember correctly, the first 6 months of my Japanese studies was spent trying not to think In Korean.  But I decided to pick it up again.  So far, it’s been a frikin breeze, especially since I’m using the laddering method.  I watched a show yesterday and was surprised by how much I still remember.  My thinking is if I wait too long the comprehension might go away, so I’m gonna try to maintain it now.  My reading/pronunciation has already gone to crap, and I don’t want the rest of my skills to go bye-bye.

Japanese everyday.

Same old, same old, except with more translation/transcription.  Games, manga, tv, other people, more books.  Gonna try to do something big before I reach my 2 year mark.  Don’t know what yet.  Suggestions?

Actually make a video at some point.

Heh, yeah. We’ll see.  I’ll try. Maybe when it gets warmer.  I don’t feel like dropping my technology.

Talk to at least one stranger a day, at least while in Japan.

A simple こんにちは would count as a victory.  I think I need to get more comfortable with speaking.  I’m a very quiet person in general, and even more so in Japanese, but <bighead>my comprehension/vocabulary is certainly not the problem</bighead>.  My problem is actually harder to fix, I think.  You can always learn new words and stuff.  It’s harder to change a personality.  Not impossible, but it will take some 努力 on my part.  But I think I can do it.  This goal will bring me one step closer to a new me.

Good luck in the new year, may your faces be glorious(?).
